Trail Training
Vic Landon
It’s February already and I’m one month into my training for my mountain half marathon and I’m wondering what I’m doing!?! I have all the gear and still don’t really know where to start. After having an enforced 4 months off exercise, month one was very much about getting me moving again.
I’m sometimes jealous of myself living in such a beautiful and oudoorsy part of the world and have been making the most of being able to get my skis on and enjoy a day on the white stuff. In addition to all of the shoop shooping I’ve covered well over 100km on foot in January. We’ve been blessed with excellent snow and a lot of sunshine this year. It has been rather fresh so I’ve had to wrap up well and be careful on a few walks as there is a lot of ice around especially on the shady side of the mountain.
Veganuary has helped with my energy levels and kick restarted my weight loss journey, it has limited my mid training snacks to fruit too! I’ve certainly not missed anything and will try and keep to a mainly veggie/vegan diet now. I love the challenge of making new interesting food without animal produce.
I actually dared to step on the scales this morning and will let you know some figures at the end of the month - I know scales aren’t neccesarily the best measurement tools but they are easy.
Today I had my first PT session with the wonderful KP Core Connection, Kate will be helping me with strength, core and balance for February and has given me lots of homework this week. If any of our guests see me in the kitchen balancing with my eyes closed it’s Kates fault!
So month one has sped by but I’ve made positive steps and am looking forward to the months ahead when I get ready to take on the challenge of 21km and 1300m of ascent. Watch this space for more progress.
