Overview of the chalet
The Chalet
The Free Range Chalet
Villa Gracieuse is located at the end of a quiet residential street, and we can't wait to share it with you.
The Ideal Location
Set in her own grounds, on a quiet street just 5 minutes walk from the centre of town. Those visiting in summer (or late winter) can take advantage of evening meals outside, or just relaxing on one of our loungers in the garden.
This beautiful Villa was constructed during the boom era of the late 19th Century in the traditional Luchonnaise way - we have fireplaces directly under the windows where the chimneys branch off to one side.
Inside the building we have tried to preserve as many original features as possible, whilst modernising the facilities. All of the bedrooms are en-suite and have been tastefully redecorated.
Bagnères-de-Luchon
We believe Luchon is perfectly placed for your summer or winter holiday in the Pyrenees. Located at the bottom of the well known Superbagnères Ski Station right in the heart of the range. We’ve access to wonderful hiking, epic road cycling routes, quiet & varied MTB trails and of course the ski stations.
But it’s not all about the high octane activities. Luchon’s history means the town is easily explored at a strolling place - maybe visit the market every Wednesday or Saturday and the whole valley is dotted with historical sites.
It’s a great town to introduce families to the mountains, the annual Fête des Fleurs at the end of August is a must see and the open air pool is always a popular place to cool off. And don’t forget the Thermal Spa, Luchon evolved in that era because the thermal waters had been rediscovered, it’s a lovely way to relax or ease those aching muscles.
The Interior
Each room has hints of Villa Gracieuse's glorious past, from the dumb waiter hatch in the lounge to the marble fireplaces in each room.
There's plenty of space for everyone to spread out and enjoy some relaxation after your day in the mountains.
The Dining Room
The heart of the house is the dining room. From the grand dining table there are stunning views up and down the valley that will keep you mesmerised as you tuck into your meals.
The Living Room
Relax after a day on the mountain in our cosy lounge and watch a film, listen to some music or simply play one of our many vintage and not so vintage board games.
The Games Room
Down in the Basement, our Games room is a great place to unwind after a busy day. There’s a Pool Table, Table Tennis and a projector so you or the family can kick back and watch a movie.
The Garden
The outside space to the front is on the north side so provides welcome shade on those warmest days. It’s a great spot to gather up your friends for pre-dinner apéros or to kick back with a good book.
The Library
Our well stocked library up on the top floor is the perfect spot to kick back & lose yourself in a book. Feel free to exchange any books you finished with.
The Bedrooms
We have 5 large en suite bedrooms and can comfortably accommodate 15 people. Each bedroom has been tastefully renovated and can be set up as twin or super-king. We have two family/friends suites, one with separate bunk room, the other with ample space for 5 single beds. All rooms also have the option of a cot or fold out bed.
The Bathrooms
Each of our spacious bedrooms has an ensuite bathroom, all with basins and toilets.
To soak away the aches and pains from a day on the mountain, the two family suites have baths with overhead showers. The remaining three rooms have a shower cubicle.
About us
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far, far away we were both practising Civil Engineers. We have always been big lovers of the outdoors and our particular passion is skiing.
For many years we considered working a ski season, but it wasn't until the summer of 2010, when Victoria was made redundant, that we felt we finally had the opportunity to work 'just one' ski season before 'returning to real life'. Nine years later and we're still here!
We decided early on that we wanted to do this for ourselves, and set about learning the trade, realising that not only could we learn from the things that were done really well, but crucially, that we could avoid things that made guests feel uncomfortable or frustrated.
We love our vocations (its not a job, it's a lifestyle choice!) and seeing our guests have the very best week. Holidays are precious and we will do everything we can to make sure that you have a hassle and stress free break with The Free Range Chalet.
We are your hosts, chefs, chauffeurs and much more (or less if you prefer) during your stay and we look forward to welcoming you into our home.
