Vic on the Run

How’s the training going? Thanks for asking… well 10 weeks ago I struggled to trot/jog for 90 seconds, today I didn’t bat an eyelid when jogging 7.5km, I’m super proud of what I’ve managed so far but am also incredibly realistic about what lies ahead. I’m not fast, I’m not pretty, I’m not bouncy but for all the negatives there is one overriding positive - I AM DETERMINED.

I was a little worried that I would lose a little motivation as we’ve have had visitors, taken on a mammoth decorating job and even had a trip back to the UK to have a long overdue catch up with family and friends over the last couple of months. Through all of this I managed to complete the BBC Couch to 5K program. For anyone that has ever been tempted to don the trainers and get out there and trot, I can highly recommed it. I ran every other day for 9 weeks and went from zero to 5km and beyond.

Whilst in the UK I had the absolute pleasure of completing my first Parkrun with my superstar nephews Bertie and Wilf. Wilf ran the first 500m with me before dropping me to go at his own pace, Bertie was off on his own from the start. I can’t quite get over how fast they both are, Berties PB at the Barnstaple Park Run is just over 21minutes, not bad for a 12 year old, Wilf (10) isn’t that far behind either, so proud of them both for having such a fab and inclusive hobby. I was really taken with the Parkrun event and have tried to run at least 5km every saturday since. I would love to see one in Luchon, maybe we should get a gang of volunteers together and run it ourselves, any of the Luchon crew up for it?

I flew through the medical with my Doctor a couple of weeks ago so I am now officially registered for the event. I fully expect to be last on the 21km (half marathon) route and I’m OK with that. I’m realisitic too and will not be running the full distance as theres more than 1300m of climbing to do and running the whole way would be madness!

It still feels like I have a mountain to climb but it feels like a more manageable mountain. Send me lots of positive thoughts as these last few weeks of training are going to be tough.
