Recycling and the Challenges of Interseason
Vic Landon
Between our adventurous summer clients and our snow loving winter guests we have a little time to tackle the many maintenance tasks a huge house brings with it. One main challenge is painting the 40 (!) windows. We’re half way through now but I fear that task will be like painting the forth bridge.
Note: This was originally published in Dec 2016.
To break up that epic job we have a few more interesting jobs. This is one of the little projects we’ve been working on this Autumn.
Bedroom 2 has been missing it’s mirror since we moved in. Luckily we made friends with the lovely Phillipe at the local ‘decheterie’ (tip), and once we told him all about our project here at the Villa, he’s been keeping his eye out for anything discarded that would fit. Phillipe found this mirror in a little disrepair, rescued it and donated it to our cause last summer.
Sadly it suffered further ignominy being left in our ‘Tool Room’ until a few weeks ago. Vic lovingly, delicately and patiently repaired all of the broken bits of the plaster surround (without any training whatsoever!) and spray painted it with some leftover grey paint we found in the back of a cupboard.
And so onto today when we’ve managed to fix this beautiful old thing to the wall and hopefully brought and inward glow of pride to a once forgotten piece of furniture.
Well, that was all back in 2016. And as of this Spring (2021) 4 of the rooms have had their first refresh. The mirror we talked about is still in place, but has also had a refresh and is now a spangly gold colour!
